How cancelling direct deposit help me save thousands of dollars!

Ok, I'm a for sure microwave kid, as my grandad would say. I think we all are in some way or form... You know, we want instant results. So direct deposit just makes sense for several reasons.
I opted out of direct deposit this fall & decided to go back to '90s... That's right LIVE CHECKS- delivered Friday afternoon, right before you go home.
Three reasons why this worked for me. Inconvience! More THINKING time! Seeing CASH (checks), having a tangible reward.
Inconvenient. It wasn't "convenient" to obtain the money. I have to go to the bank, use an ATM or wait in line and wait for the check to clear. So, even if I deposit it Saturday morning, it won't clear until Monday when I'm back in my daily routine. And hopefully not over indulging in dinning out & cocktails like most people on the weekend.
Thinking TIME. Because the money is not available for lavish engagements... this helps me to be smart with what money I have on hand. Calculate what my daily essentials are & how much I need to obtain them & only them. And then put my earnings in bigger prospective. Instead of "let me run to h&m or Zara on my break for an outfit for tonight followed by an ATM run of $140 for sushi, martinis & a cab!"
Now grant it, some of us have our bills pulled direct from our checking accounts. And you would rather not be caught with our pants down & rack up on the overdraft fees, if you don't make it to the bank in time! You can always do a partial directly deposit. Calculate your bills & direct deposit the total plus 10% for security. This way you can FEEL, SEE, SMELL your disposal income. And hopefully a tangible reward helps you stack a little better.
ProGlam Tip: having a live check forces you to review your pay stub & potentially catch errors that the payroll/accountant department may have made.
